Foreign Airlines add India routes

Despite record oil prices and rising operations costs, international airlines are making a beeline to tap the booming air travel market in India.German air carrier Lufthansa has started non-stop services between Pune and Frankfurt. Its first flight LH768 touched down at the Pune International Airport on the 2nd of July. The sector will have six weekly flights that make Lufthansa the first airline to offer non-stop connections between Pune and Europe, a company statement stated.The route will be serviced by the Airbus A319, which offers a total of 48 seats in an all-business class configuration.
Meanwhile, Dubai-based carrier, Emirates, announced direct flights to Kozhikode from Dubai.
The airline will operate six flights every week to Kozhikode. At present, it operates flights to Cochin and Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.Emirates has a robust presence in the Gulf and West Asia, serving the region with 163 weekly flights.With the new flight, Emirates now operates 125 flights every week to 10 cities in India. Emirates has deployed the Boeing 777-200 and Airbus A330200 aircraft on the new route.
Also, Hong Kong-based full-service carrier, Dragonair started operations in India with nonstop daily flights between Hong Kong and Bangalore.The airline will extend its service to other cities in India depending on bilateral agreements.Dragonair is the sister airline of Cathay Pacific Airways and they together operate 35 flights from India. Cathay Pacific has recently added 20 new flights a week, including new services from Chennai that adds to 28 flights a week.
All these foreign airlines are upbeat about the Indian market. Lufthansa too shares the mood.
The carrier already operates two daily non-stop flights each from New Delhi and Mumbai to Frankfurt and Munich, and a daily non-stop flight each from Chennai to Frankfurt, Bangalore to Frankfurt, six weekly flights from Hyderabad to Frankfurt, and three weekly flights from Kolkata to Frankfurt.
