With a view to replicate the modernised farming techniques used in Israel on the fields of Haryana, the state's horticulture department will soon implement two projects in collaboration with the Israel government. The projects will be based on demonstration of technology model, whereby an integrated Fruit demonstration center and integrated Vegetable demonstration center will be set up at Sirsa and Karnal respectively. The Indo-Israel work plan has been chalked out and the cost is expected to go upto Rs 10 crore for both the projects. The fruit center at Sirsa will be spread over 15 acres and the vegetable center at Karnal over 25 acres. As a part of the MoU signed between the Israel government and Government of India, various projects have been picked up in different states to promote horticulture activities, technology transfer and for human resource development through technical training.
A team of officials from the horticulture department of Haryana also visited Israel to study the techniques used there and the viability of using them here. It was noted that the climatic conditions in Israel are very similar to that of Haryana and hence most of the post harvest management and cultivation techniques followed there can be used here as well.
This exchange of technology will go on for over 4 years for mechanised farming, drip irrigation, micro irrigation etc. Officials and progressive farmers will also be sent to Israel for training and a sum of Rs 1 crore has been set aside for the same.
