World's largest infotech training centre


One of the world's largest training centres in the IT sector will be inaugurated by Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi at the sprawling Infosys campus in Mysore on Tuesday. The Global Education Centre-2, an expanded unit of the first unit, has been set up at a cost of Rs 800 crore.
The centre accommodates up to 13,500 new recruits, making it one of the largest corporate training facilities in the world. "With GEC-1 and GEC-2, this is easily the biggest training centre in the world," a spokesperson of Infosys said.Infosys invests an average of Rs 2.50 lakh on training a potential employee over a period of 16 weeks. The training centre and the programmes at the centre are all under the direct leadership of head of human resources and board member Mohandas Pai. It has seven blocks with 84 hundred-seater, three 200-seater and six 60-seater classrooms, five examination halls and 301 faculty rooms. It also has an induction hall which can seat 300 trainees. Sonia Gandhi, who arrives in Bengaluru on Monday evening, will fly to Mysore by a chopper on Tuesday to inaugurate the second unit of the centre.
Built in Roman style, the centre has been designed by Mumbai architect Hafiz Contractor.The Infosys campus in Mysore, spread over 335 acres, has been built at a cost of Rs 1,700 crore.The GEC-1 was inaugurated by prime minister Manmohan Singh in 2005.
Infosys said the objective of the centre was to educate the employees on technological and managerial skills with the rationale of creating cohesive multicultural teams.
Infosys had the rare honour of ringing the NASDAQ bell from its Mysore campus during the silver jubilee celebrations in 2007. Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and the district in charge minister Shobha Karandlaje will be present at the inauguration Tuesday.
