Namma Metro to start on 4th April

The government has come out with a fresh date for the much-awaited Bangalore Metro launch. Reach One of the project — from Byappanahalli to M G Road — will start commercial operations on Ugadi, that’s on April 4. Dismissing reports about delay, he shot back: “While Delhi Metro took five-and-a-half-years to complete Reach One of about 7km, we have completed almost the same length in four years and three months.” On the issue of ticket rates, Sivasailam said except for the first two stations, long-distance rates fixed by BMRC are the cheapest in the country. Regarding delay in start of underground work from Chinnaswamy stadium to Magadi Road on the East-West Corridor and City Market to Swastik on South-North Corridor under Phase I, Sivasailam said two tunnel-boring machines will arrive by March-end and work will start from first week of April. “One of the two machines will come from Japan on February 20 and another a month later.”
