Arudhra

With the induction of the state-of-the-art Medium Power Radar (MPR) system under the South Western Air Command (SWAC) at Naliya air force station in Gujarat on Friday, the Indian Air Force has set its foot towards strengthening its surveillance mechanism by replacing the old technology radars in a phased manner. This is the first advanced radar system named as ‘Arudhra’ to be inducted and is an indigenously developed one. Arudhra has been developed with a view to detect small targets at ranges greater than 300 km and is an important component in IAF’s plans to achieve network-centric operations and strengthening the air defence system in western India.
