In a landmark verdict, the Supreme Court has upheld the right of a private citizen to seek sanction for prosecution of apublic servant for corruption, while setting a deadline of four months for the government to decide the issue of giving sanction for prosecution of public servants facing graft charges. The SC said, “There is no provision in the Prevention of Corruption Act or CrPC which bars a citizen from filing a complaint for prosecution of a public servant who is alleged to have committed an offence.”
