The Dreamliner

Boeing will fly in a ready-for-delivery Dreamliner 787 — painted in AI livery (colours and logo) complete with seats and inflight entertainment — to the Hyderabad air show next month. The aircraft will remain there for four days and then head back to Seattle as the government is yet to make up its mind on whether the nearly bankrupt airline can afford this aircraft or not. While AI has made a strong case for this aircraft, saying its recovery is incumbent on this 250-seater midrange aircraft, the ultimate decision for giving this new toy to the airline will depend on the Cabinet. A GoM on AI has been slated to meet for months now to take a call on this issue. AI had ordered 27 787s at a cost of Rs 18,000 crore and was to be the second airline globally to get this aircraft after Japan’s ANA.
