Pakistan has formally conveyed to India that the evidence on the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks it had provided is inadmissible in the court hearing the case in the country as the lawyers representing seven Pakistani accused were not allowed to cross-examine Indian officials, a media report said.
An eight-member Pakistani judicial commission of defense lawyers and prosecutors that had visited India in March to gather evidence regarding the case was denied permission to cross-examine witnesses.
The Express Tribune reported that Pakistan’s interior ministry sent a letter to the Indian government on Tuesday citing the Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court’s July 17 verdict rejecting the evidence. The court had declared the proceedings of the commission “null and void’’ after hearing a petition filed against it by Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, one of the accused in Pakistan.
The commission had met police officers who investigated the carnage and doctors who conducted autopsies of the terrorists and victims of the attack.
The evidence provided by Indian authorities included the confessional statement of Ajmal Kasab and a CD containing conversations between the attackers in Mumbai and their alleged handlers in Pakistan.
