Pune HCMTR update

Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) land acquisition department has forwarded a proposal to municipal commissioner to appoint a private agency for the land acquisition process for the proposed 34-km-long high capacity mass transit route (HCMTR) plan.
If accepted, it will be the first project where land acquisition will be carried out through a private agency.
Proposed in the development plan (DP) of 1987, the HCMTR project failed to take off owing to land acquisition issue. Of the 8,16,000 sqm land required for the proposed ring road, PMC has managed to acquire only 2,50,650 sqm in 20 years.
Citing manpower crunch, the civic body has proposed to commissioner Mahesh Pathak.
Welcoming the move, senior Congress leader and corporator Aba Bagul said, “By appointing a private agency, the land acquisition process will speed up and save time. The work of ring road that will solve the traffic problems of the city should be carried out under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme.”
“According to the DPR, nearly 60 main roads of the city’s suburban areas like Hadapsar, Ahmednagar Road, Sinhgad Road, Baner Road and Aundh Road will be connected to these flyovers that will provide good road connectivity. However, the construction of flyovers on this ring road should be systematic as it could solve the traffic problems of the city for 50 years.”
