Most people stayed put at home, waiting patiently for an end to the protest against the Supreme Court order to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
Flag-waving volunteers of organizations that had called for the bandh roamed almost all localities, asking
business establishments to shut shop and ordering people not to venture out.
The Majestic area and central business district shut down completely.
Anyone found outside was stopped and questioned. Only vehicles of emergency services were allowed. Passengers who arrived at bus and railway stations had a tough time reaching home. Buses, autos and taxis (except those plying to the airport) were off the roads.
Barring a few stray incidents of stone-throwing, the bandh was peaceful.
The shutdown was total in the Cauvery basin districts but partial in the coastal areas. There was no response in north Karnataka.
