Gurgaon’s skyline was transformed with the first trial run of the Rapid Metro making its way in between the millennium city’s high-rise buildings.
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda flagged off the trial run of the transport system that will augment connectivity within Gurgaon. Mr. Hooda also laid the foundation for the seven-km southward extension of the project towards Sector 56, Golf Course Road, from Sikanderpur.
Lauding the efforts of Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon Limited (RMGL), which is constructing the new metro system, he said: “The project has been implemented under the PPP [public-private partnership] model. While the entire project cost has been borne by the private company, the Haryana Government has provided the right of way on lease hold basis.”
He said the Government plans to use the PPP model for all future projects. “The PPP model is the future for development.”
The Rapid Metro is expected to begin operations from March 2013.
