Maharashtra Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan has approved the reservation of biodiversity parks (BDP) as recommended by the Jain committee in 12 of the 23 merged villages in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), a state government press release said.
The civic body had proposed the reservation in the development plan (DP) which was sent to the state government for its approval. The reservation is spread on seven hills in 12 villages and its total area is 978.54 hectare comprising 124.45 hectare of government land and 853.09 hectare in private ownership.
The state government had appointed a committee presided over by KB Jain of the environment department, Centre of Environmental Planning and Technology, Ahmedabad to study the proposal.
The main recommendations of the committee were to make the BDP reservations permanent by giving the land owners transfer of development rights in lieu of their land. Those who give land in the first year would be given additional TDR. Around 74 hectare with old constructions would be excluded from the reservation, the release said.
