The Punjab government has banned Punjabi movie ‘Sadda Haq’, that had been drawing flak for its portrayal of terrorism in the state and its promotional song likening 10th Sikh master Guru Gobind Singh and martyr Bhagat Singh to militant leaders Jarnail Singh Bhinderanwala and Balwant Singh Rajoana. “This step has been taken to maintain communal harmony in the state,” said an official statement.
The movie was banned hours after it was screened for a team of IAS and IPS officers, including CM Prakash Singh Badal’s principal secretary S K Sandhu and additional DGP Hardeep Dhillon a day before its release. Singer Jazzy B has sung the song, ‘Baghi’ (the rebel), for the movie that was slated for release after the Censor Board cleared it after an eight-month delay. Earlier, Hindu organizations had protested against the movie.
