Jaipur BRTS update

The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) gave its green signal to extend the Bus Rapid Transit Service (BRTS) route to Sanganaer airport via B2 bypass during the project works committee meeting.
Considering the airport to be an important point, the JDA has decided to provide an alternative route to it and proposed construction of the BRTS (phase -IV) corridor. “We have proposed to extend the Government Hostel to Amrit Nagar (New Sanganer road) route to connect the airport. The route is 13 km long and extension of approximately 7 km more will connect it with the Sanganer Airport,” a senior JDA official said.
The proposal will be sent to the Centre soon and it is estimated that the cost of the project will be Rs 174 crore. “An elevated road with an estimated cost of Rs 90 crore has been proposed above B2 bypass. From the Tonk Road end, it will be constructed till the end of New Sanganer Road. Similarly, from New Sanganer Road, the elevated road will be constructed till Amanishah Nullah and will be 1,200 metre long,” an official said.
The official claimed that as the Metro phase- II is proposed on the Tonk Road, an extended BRTS route of the existing one is the most viable way to connect to the airport. “Due to space constraints and the Metro project on Tonk Road, a dedicated BRTS corridor is not feasible on Tonk road,” he said.
Earlier, facing problems to construct the dedicated corridor from Panipech to Sanganer, the JDA, in its revised DPR, had proposed it as a mixed corridor and priority lane. However, a source said chances of getting the proposal approved is very less as the Centre has not given its nod to for mixed corridors across the country.
According to officials, the elevated road proposed on B2 bypass will swiftly connect with Tonk Road. After the elevated road from Panipech to Collectorate Circle under BRTS project, phase II, was dropped, the JDA sent a revised proposal of Rs 590 crore to the Centre for approval.
Taking a cue from metro cities like Mumbai and Delhi, the JDA has also decided to put up concrete crash barriers at the middle of roads to stop residents from crossing the roads. Initially, it will be installed on Tonk Road from Sanganear flyover to Sitapura flyover. The height of the barriers will be 3-4 meters.
