Getting the ball rolling for his return to the BJP, B S Yeddyurappa wrote to assembly speaker on Friday that four of the six MLAs of his Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP) will join the parent party.
B R Patil and Guru Patil Shiraval kept away from the merger. This will not affect their assembly membership. Yeddyurappa will not attract provisions of the anti-defection law either because two-thirds of the party’s six MLAs have joined the BJP.
After receiving the petition, speaker K Thimmappa said he will go through legal provisions and decide. With Yeddyurappa returning, the BJP’s strength in the assembly will increase to 44, making it eligible for the status of the main opposition party, now held by the JD(S).
