INS Vikrant, which was built for the British Royal Navy as HMS Hercules in 1943 and went to war with Pakistan in 1971, is finally being broken down after a glorious history of 71 years. The dismantling, which started on Thursday with the first blow hammered on its front portion, came three months after the Supreme Court junked a PIL against the scrapping of India's first aircraft carrier.
