West Bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee joined Twitter on Thursday. A Facebook person since June, 2012, Mamata had always shunned Twitter. Mamata wrote in her first tweet, “A New Year. A new beginning for me on Twitter.“ While it remains to be seen whether Mamata will use her Twitter handle to respond to posts, the Twitteratti are already abuzz on her arrival.
Trinamool Congress spokesperson Derek O'Brien (perhaps the most visible Twitter face in Trinamool Congress with 347K followers) wrote, “Welcome to Mamata Didi.. Honored to follow one of the greatest daughters of India...“ Jokes, too, followed. Suhel Seth posted in back-to-back comments, “Delighted that Mamata Banerjee is now on Twitter. Twitter needs to worry now.“
