Mula-Mutha Riverfront update

The standing committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved the proposal to develop Mula and Mutha rivers on the lines of the Sabarmati riverfront project. The committee also allotted the contract to the agency which carried out the Sabarmati project.
The contractor will draft a detailed project report and a special-purpose vehicle will implement the work. The civic administration will pay Rs.3.96 crore for the project.
The proposal stated that the consultant will be responsible for carrying out a topographic survey , preparing a conceptual plan, public consultation, drafting a master plan, SPV formation, acquiring no-objection certificates from government agencies, and planning and designing projects with estimates.
Apart from the PMC, the irrigation and forest departments, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, cantonment boards and the district collectorate will be involved in the project.
Mula-Mutha flows along 40 km through the PMC and PCMC areas, from Khadki to Pune cantonments.
According to the idea of the riverfront development, areas around the rivers will have gardens, walkways and other environment-friendly facilities.
Sabarmati model :The Sabarmati Riverfront Project has been planned to be self-financed. While the major infrastructural components of the project are almost complete, a small portion of the reclaimed land is to be sold for commercial development to generate adequate resources for developing the riverfront and managing it.
The project began in 2004 and took almost 11 years to complete. The total costs were Rs.1103.42 crore. It includes a river promenade, parks and plazas, sports facilities and other development sites
