The Kochi police has registered cases against the organizers, protesters and participants of the ‘Kiss of Love’ (KOL) an anti-moral policing campaign held here on Sunday evening. The event had received unexpected participation with around 10,000 people from all walks of life converging at the Marine Drive.
Ernakulam Central police circle-inspector Nizamudheen Y said that over 1,000 people have been booked. “We have registered four cases in all –– two against the organizers and remaining two against the protesters and participants. We had recorded video and still photographs of those who were present at the event on Sunday evening. The procedure of identifying them will begin at the earliest,” the officer said.
About 100 people whom police have identified as the organizers of KOL have been booked under section 151 of the CrPC (preventive arrest for disrupting peace) and sections 143, 144, 146 and 147 read with 149 of the IPC that are related to unlawful assembly (with or without arms) and rioting, and section 283 for danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation.
The protesters and participants were also booked under the IPC sections 143, 144, 146, 147 read with 149 and 283.
Kiss of Love was the largest social media-driven event Kerala has ever witnessed till date.
KOL was a call by a group of Facebook users to protest against the attack by Yuva Morcha volunteers on a hotel in Kozhikode, alleging that immoral activities were going on there.
Many organizations had protested against the event saying it was against Indian culture.
