Mumbai Wi-fi plan on track

Keeping the security fears aside, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to go ahead with its Rs 50-crore plan to make MUmbai WiFi enabled.Anil Diggikar, additional municipal commissioner who is in charge of the project, met experts from Tata Consultancy Services, the project’s consultant to discuss security issues. TCS assured Diggikar that the encryption and other security aspects can be addressed without hampering the civic body’s plans to make the city wi-fi enabled. The aim is to allow citizen to access civic services via the internet. “The TCS experts have assured that inbuilt security arrangements can be provided easily and that security threat should not be a concern,’’ Diggikar said.A meeting of other experts has been called by the civic administration next week to discuss its Wi-Fi plans for the city. Officials said they had invited Science and Technology Park, a Pune-based Government of India organisation, to help the civic body draw up the Expression of Interest as well as discuss the security aspect. “It will also aid business as Mumbai is being projected as an international financial centre,’’ said officials.
