
The civil airport at Jaisalmer will be ready by this December and there are chances of starting air service from here by the next season. The construction of civil airport at Jaisalmeri Shilp Kala on Khuhadi route, 8 km from the Jaisalmer district headquarters, is in the final stages. The airport is being built on 24 hectares of land with a cost of Rs 60 crore. Airports Authority of India’s joint general manager, civil engineering, Narendra Makhija said that construction of modern terminal at the airport is over and provisions have been made for an air bridge, a foot bridge and escalators. Three flights can be operated from this terminal. Makhija said that by next year the airport will become operational. The state government in 2004 had allotted 60 acres of free land for the airport. Tourism agents are happy with the completion of civil airport.
