Buckling under pressure from the strong middlemen lobby, the Maharashtra state government has postponed its decision to allow farmers to sell their produce directly to consumers. According to a senior government official, agriculture minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil held a meeting with the traders of the Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) recently where the minister gave the instruction of setting up a ‘study group’.
