Somewhere in Madhya Pradesh....

A day after it came to light that the Madhya Pradesh government had ordered the Bhagwad Gita be taught in madrassas, the controversial diktat was withdrawn as outrage swept across Muslim community over alleged attempts at saffronization of Islamic institutions.
A rattled chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan retreated less than a week after issuing the government order amid mounting criticism, also in the process distancing himself from his public statement from an RSS platform a year ago: that teachings from the Hindu holy book would be included in school curricula.
“There has been a controversy that the Gita would be taught in schools of Madhya Pradesh. It’s untrue that Gita lessons are mandatory. But to put an end to the controversy, we have decided to recall the order,’’ said Chouhan. He also argued that “there was no hidden agenda” in the inclusion of lessons from the Gita.
On Monday, the Congress accused the BJP government of dividing the society along communal lines before elections.
