Jammu and Kashmir legislative council’s privileges committee has issued a fresh summon to ex-Army chief V K Singh over his remarks regarding alleged payoffs to the state’s politicians since 1947. It comes even as Singh wrote to the panel in response to an earlier summon.
Officials said the fresh summon was sent via Haryana police chief asking the ex-Army chief to appear before the committee on January 22 in Jammu to explain his position. Ruling National Conference MLC Devinder Singh Rana had moved a motion against Singh and sought his appearance before the panel.
“The privilege committee met as per schedule and when no one appeared, it was decided to issue fresh summons to him through DGP Haryana.”
Sources said the ex-army chief, who was supposed to appear before the committee on Thursday, had sent retired Col U B Singh to represent him. They added Singh’s letter “was not entertained”.
