Mumbai Metro One update

Mumbai will have to wait a little longer for the first ride on its metro rail. Phase one of the metro rail project, between Versova and Ghatkopar via Andheri, has run into its biggest roadblock even before its tracks are in place. The design of the alignments of its foundation pillars have been changed on J P Road, as the MMRDA failed to provide requisite road space for construction. It may be a similar story at five other stretches. Sources say the space crunch will not only increase the cost of civil construction by 40%, but also delay the project, which both MMRDA and MMOPL had promised to complete by the end of 2010.
