Maruti Suzuki India Ltd reported its highest-ever monthly sales in March even as rival Tata Motors Ltd saw a decline in car sales. Maruti Suzuki India reported a 39% increase in local sales to 110,424 units last month, according to a company statement. This is its highest-ever sales in a month, beating its previous best of 107,555 units sold in October. Tata Motors registered a marginal decline in passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market to 27,678 units from 27,760 units in the same period last year because of a drop in the sales of its Indica cars. Sales of Indica cars fell 40% to 6,937 units, while the Indigo family had sales of 7,197 units, down 5%. Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) sold 31,822 units in March, an increase of just 1%. Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, however, said its domestic sales increased 19% to 35,488 units in March. Ford India also said local sales jumped 11% to 10,485 units. Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt.Ltd reported its highest-ever monthly sales at 9,726 units, registering a 41% jump over the same month last year. Nissan India saw sales jump 20-fold to 2,101 cars. Two-wheeler makers led by Hero Honda, which posted its best monthly sales, showed an increase in sales. Hero Honda reported sales of 515,852 units in March, registering a jump of 24%. Chennai-based TVS Motor Co. Ltd said its two-wheeler sales saw a 27% increase at 186,781 units from 146,763 in the same month last year. India Yamaha Motor said sales rose 34% to 36,768 units.
