Somewhere in Kaziranga....

Poachers have killed a rhino near the northern boundary of Assam’s Kaziranga National Park, barely six days after the police foiled a similar bid in the same area This is the fourth rhino killed in the only World Heritage Site of the state this year. Last year five pachyderms were killed inside the park. The incident took place in the Gopaljaroni area of Sonitpur east forest division on Saturday night. The area is near the Biswanathghat forest range of the park. The rhino was killed while it was wandering outside the park. Besides its horn, the poachers took the animal’s bone and flesh. Divisional forest officer Anirudha Dey said, “A group of poachers killed a rhino last night. We suspect the animal was shot dead and then cut into pieces using sharp weapons.”
