Pakistani delegation for Vibrant Gujarat

A decade after his ‘Miyan Musharraf’ tirades, the Gujarat chief minister has rolled out the red carpet for a delegation from the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the sixth Vibrant Gujarat Investor Summit later this month.
“Their area of interest is mainly textiles, chemicals and gems and jewellery,” said Maheshwar Sahu, principal secretary (industries).
Just before the assembly elections in December, Modi had raked up a controversy by writing to the PM, asking him to stop dialogue with Pakistan on Sir Creek. He had demanded that the creek should not be handed over to Pakistan. All the while, the Karachi chamber has been warming up to Gujarat as its representatives attended a chemical expo in Ahmedabad last year and even called on Modi at his residence. Some members had invited Modi to address corporate honchos in Pakistan via video-conferencing.
Given the association between Gujarat and Sindh regions, they had urged Modi to help start a direct flight between Ahmedabad and Karachi. A trade delegation led by senior vice president of the Karachi chamber, Younus Muhammad Bashir Orawala, had also visited Surat last year.
