Chennaiyin FC wins ISL 2015

The Indian Super League (ISL) final appears addicted to late drama.
If Mohammad Rafique headed a last-minute winner in last year's final for Atletico de Kolkata, Stiven Mendoza rubbed salt on Goan wounds with two goals in added time as Chennaiyin FC stunned FC Goa 3-2 to emerge winners in the second edition in Fatorda on Sunday .
The capacity crowd at Fatorda had just begun celebrating Joffre Gonzalez's well-worked free-kick goal for FC Goa that gave the hosts a 2-1 advantage with just three minutes left on the clock. But joy soon turned into anguish as Goa conceded an own goal to tie the game in added time, and before anyone could realize what was unfolding on the field, Mendoza struck the winner. It was a shocking end to the match where Goa seemed to have done enough to steal the winner but Chennaiyin FC had the last laugh as Goa froze in the final moments of the match.
Not surprisingly, Chennaiyin FC celebrated their win in front of a near empty stadium, and those who had stayed behind were loud and clear in their assessment that the best team did not win.
You could put it down to the passion that drives FC Goa forward. Fans had jostled for tickets, bought plenty in black for extraordinary prices and in the end had to return home disappointed.
