Fadnavis plans a Bhoomi pujan Blitzkrieg

With an eye on the approaching civic elections, the BJP-led Maharashtra state government is ready to set infrastructure projects worth over Rs.1 lakh crore rolling . All these projects are Mumbai-specific and aim to decongest roads and make commuting easy .
Some of these projects include the Mumbai-Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), coastal road, Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro III, Navi Mumbai airport, CST-Panvel and Bandra-Virar elevated corridor.
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis will host a series of groundbreaking ceremonies (bhoomi pujan) for the projects between August and November--before the election code of conduct sets in by the year-end. All these projects are being finalized on a war-footing. As the BJP plans to go solo for the civic elections, it will have to score high on the development card to attract voters, say political observers. Their launch will set the tone for the BJP for the civic elections. The projects are expected to be completed by 2019, which will be promoted to contest the state elections.
Most of these projects had been delayed for want of clearances, but now all have received the required permissions and work orders are ready to be issued.
According to the deadline set by Fadnavis, civil work for the 33.5 km Metro-III project is expected to start in the next two months. But the spot where the depot will be constructed has not been finalized yet.
Similarly , all procedures for the MTHL, including signing of the loan agreement, should be tied up. Work is expected to begin by November.Work on the Bandra-Versova portion of the coastal road will start soon as it is relatively easy to execute; the entire project cost is Rs.11,000 crore. For the Rs.15,000 crore MTHL project, the government is awaiting final approval for the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) loan.
