‘The Entrepreneurial India’

In a survey titled ‘The Entrepreneurial India’, conducted by global consultancy firm KPMG and The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), among 1,000 entrepreneurs across 15 states, Karnataka scored just 3.13 on a scale of 5 in entrepreneurial confidence — well below the national average of 3.31. Andhra Pradesh got the highest confidence score of 4.14. Each state’s confidence score is based on scores given by entrepreneurs in that state alone. When entrepreneurs were asked which state they would prefer to be in today, an overwhelming 23% voted for Gujarat. In contrast, Karnataka got only 4% of the respondents’ vote. This was below Maharashtra (13%), Haryana (7.5%), Delhi (5.5%), TN (5%) and AP (5%). Entrepreneurs in Karnataka felt the state lagged in providing government support, infrastructure, systems and regulation to support entrepreneurial ventures. “Leadership in Karnataka is not as inspiring as in states like Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat. The government lacks proactivity and is not focused on all-round development,” said Pradip Kanakia, national head of markets, KPMG.
