10 leopards die in a week in Uttarakhand

There has been an alarming rise in the deaths of leopards in Uttarakhand with 10 big cats dying in the past one week. On Thursday, two leopards were killed by the forest department — one in Tehri and another in Chamoli — after they were declared maneaters. Two leopard cubs were found dead at Sisuli village of Nainital district on Monday. A pregnant leopardess died on Tuesday apparently due to some disease in the jungles of Maat village in Almora district. In a separate incident on the same day, a leopard was found dead at Barkot range of Rajaji Park near Dehra Dun. Two leopards were found dead at the Paanisain area in Pauri district on Wednesday. Recently, a leopard was declared a maneater in Almora district after it killed four children in a fortnight. The villagers are seeking its immediate death. As per official figures, at least six leopards were declared maneaters in Teh hill state.
