Hitting back at AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi for commenting on his advancing age, Kerala chief minister V S Achuthanandan called the Gandhi scion “Amul baby”. “Everyone knows that Rahul Gandhi is an Amul Baby and he has fielded Amul babies in some constituencies. His comments are only for these infants,” said Achuthanandan in Palakkad. Speaking to reporters in Palakkad, an emotionally charged VS recited a couplet from a Malayalam poem which went, “Grey hair was not the sign of my growing age, neither the young age proof of my youth. Not bowing my head before the bourgeoise is my youth.” Replying to reporters who referred to Rahul’s statement, VS sought to know how he could be blamed for his age. Narrating the struggles of his life, Achuthanandan said, “I am 87 now. I lost my father at seven and had to stop going to school. Since then I have been amid struggles against the British and the monarchy. I was onkly 16 then,” VS said, and taunted the Congress youth icon, wondering where he is at age 40. Speaking at an election rally in Kochi on Saturday, Rahul took a swipe at VS saying if the Left returned to power, the people of Kerala would have a 93-year-old chief minister by 2016.
