Gujarat sets six Guinness records

Gujarat has made it to the Guinness Book of World Records with as many as six entries during the state’s year-long golden jubilee celebrations, which ended on May 1 this year. The event on this day to celebrate 50 years of the state’s foundation too made it to the Guinness book as the longest song and dance routine where 4500 people danced to AR Rahman’s music for the programme, ‘Aage Kadam’. The Golden Chess mahotsav where world champion Viswanathan Anand was the guest, on December 24, 2010 was recorded as the largest single chess festival anywhere in the world. The state youth and culture department has made it to the Guinness Book of World Records for gathering 20,000 chess players at a single venue on a single day. Of the six, three records were broken by classical vocalist Dhari Panchamda. Panchamda got the Guinness certificate for setting a world record for singing continuously for 101 hours and 23 minutes on November 15, 2010 at the Tana Riri music festival in Vadnagar, which also happens to be chief minister Narendra Modi’s birthplace.
