Home minister Rajnath Singh, who visited sensitive south Kashmir district of Anantnag on Sunday, praised the bravery and courage of security forces there, claiming that no force on earth can stop Kashmir from becoming `heaven on earth' again.
Singh, who is on a four-day visit to J-K, also conveyed the message of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the forces, stating he was also praising the courage of the forces operating in the state.
The home minister also paid tributes to constable Imtiyaz of the J-K Police, who was killed in a militant attack on Saturday afternoon in Anantnag. The minister said that a trauma centre has been sanctioned for forces working in extremely challenging circumstances and bullet proof vehicles and vests will be made available to all police stations.
Kashmir and Chenab Valley observed a complete shutdown on Sunday after Hurriyat Conference leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Yasin Malik called for a boycott of Singh's visit. Keeping in mind the possibility of militant attack, the government forces had sealed off all roads leading to the venue in Anantnag and traffic movement on the highway was halted for a considerable time.
This is Singh's fifth visit to the state in a year as he reiterated that New Delhi was committed to providing more facilities to CRPF and other CAPFs, including helicopter service in the state and housing facility.
Rajnath Singh met several delegations of civil society members in Srinagar, claiming that he was open to meeting anybody to find a solution to the Kashmir issue. He also met Opposition leader Omar Abdullah, who welcomed Modi's August 15 statement that Kashmiris need hugs and not bullets or abuses and urged that it should be implemented on the ground.
