Blinded stray rescued from Kala Ghoda

A stray dog, badly injured and blinded in one eye, was rescued by an animal lover from Kala Ghoda on Saturday. The dog’s condition was so critical that one of its eyeballs was totally ruptured and hanging out. Colaba resident Saraswathi Menon said, “It happened to be my birthday and I had gone to Kala Ghoda for a stroll where I chanced upon this black-and-white stray limping on the pavement. It was in great pain and one eyeball had popped out. No one was ready to help the animal. An animal activist, Kurush Mistry, reached Kala Ghoda to take the animal to a dog camp in Navy Nagar. “The dog could have been hit by a speeding vehicle or someone might have deliberately assaulted it with a heavy object. Last year, too, we saw a few cases of dog blindings in the suburbs,’’ said Colonel (retired) J C Khanna of BSPCA. Menon was distraught. “The court recently allowed the BMC to cull dogs, which are a nuisance to human beings. But what happens to those human beings who are much more dangerous than being a mere ‘nuisance’ to animals?’’ she asked.
