Delhi BRT II to start in September

The last 8 km of the pilot BRT corridor between Ambedkar Nagar and Delhi Gate will be operational from September 1. The decision was taken in a meeting between traffic police, DIMTS and Delhi transport department on Friday. Announcing this soon after the meeting, transport minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said while the overall management of the corridor will be the responsibility of DIMTS, traffic police has given its formal consent in the meeting for the stretch to be opened. The latter will play the most crucial role in this phase because physical segregation of the bus lane from the rest of the road has been done away with and lane enforcement will be the key. In the second phase, there are only green boxes at the red lights where cyclists can wait. The bus stops have already been erected and the green coloured bus lane clearly demarcated.
