This will be the 14th Dalai Lama’s fifth visit to Tawang since he fled Tibet in 1959 to India via Tawang. The spiritual leader had crossed into India from Tibet on March 30, 1959 and had spent some days resting at Tawang monastery before reaching Tezpur in Assam on April 18 the same year In 1997, the Dalai Lama had gone to Tawang to preach and renovate the monastery there .
