A founding fable....

It is believed that in AD 1411, when Ahmed Shah was marching south from Patan with his massive army, he saw some hares chasing dogs on the banks of the Sabarmati. Marvelling at the courage of the hares, he decided to drop anchor at that very spot. The city of Ahmedabad came to be known after him. Be it Ahmed Shah falling in love with Teja, the beautiful daughter of a Bhil king of Ashaval (now Astodia) or saint Maneknath Baba, who wove a magic quilt, Ahmedabad’s history is replete with fables and legend that add colour to the city.
