Mumbai Metro's 4th line update

The detailed project report for the fourth line of the Mumbai Metro from Charkop to Dahisar will be presented to the MMRDA next month. The project report has been prepared by Stup Consultants, an international firm. After discussions in MMRDA, it will be sent to the state urban development department for approval. MMRDA officials said pushing ahead with the fourth line is necessary as it takes time to go through all the procedures before work begins on the ground. The state urban development department will have to invite objections and suggestions before it is approved. “Nine lines have been planned for the city and we cannot afford to get bogged down with complaints,’’ they said. Civic circles point out that the first line had to face several hurdles before work on the ground began as there were hutments along the route which had not been cleared, scores of shopkeepers at Andheri station were upset as they had to move shop. However, matters were resolved. In the case of the second line, a huge number of people had to be resettled. There were also citizens groups who objected to the elevated route. The details of the third line from Colaba to Bandra are still being worked out.
