Mumbai metro update

The Union government has decided not to fund Mumbai Metro’s Rs 10,000 crore third line from Colaba to Bandra. However, state government officials said they were not worried as the Centre’s move just meant that they would have to consider other models of financing. “As the central government is not interested, we are now looking at the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s model for its airport line as a possible solution. If we implement the third phase on the DMRC lines, the state government will build the tracks while a private firm will operate the trains. This hybrid model has a high success rate,’’ a senior MMRDA official said.
