Baba Ramdev's hard landing

The end of Baba Ramdev episode, after he had to unceremoniously end his fast after being cornered by the government, has come as sense of relief across political spectrum, including both Congress and BJP. The abrupt end of Baba’s campaign, the political circles are guessing may force yoga guru for a serious rethink on his more than evident ambition of launching a political party, which has left political parties worried. The ruling dispensation was worried with the fall out of yoga guru’s campaign against black money and corruption if not stopped. They believed if allowed to continue, Ramdev’s campaign with backroom support from Sangh Parivar may generate strong public opinion against the government already facing stain of scams and scandals. If Baba was allowed to continue his fast, there was anxiety that Sangh outfits may take over the movement and resort to mass mobilization in a bid to destabilize the government. Political observers feel yoga guru’s movement if persisted with Saffron’s backing has the potential to polarize the society on communal lines.
