Bomb defused on express train

A powerful explosive device was found on board the Guwahati-bound Kanchenjunga Express carrying at least 700 passengers early on Friday. The Adivasi People’s Army (APA), a little-known militant outfit, claimed it had planted the bomb on the train. Shivananda Murmu, “commander” of the outfit’s Kokrajhar unit, called up local TV channels and said, “This was an attempt to mount pressure on the government to create an Adivasi autonomous council.” The bomb was detected during a routine security check by GRP personnel. “It was a programmable timer device made of three detonators, splinters and explosives,” said a police officer.
