The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) on Monday finally approved city’s draft Master Development Plan 2025, envisioning the civic needs of a population of 70 lakh that would be residing in and around Jaipur by then. The city is expected to expand to almost 3,000 sq km area by 2025, as the Master Plan has included in it as many as 725 villages located along Jaipur’s periphery. These villages would be developed as urban areas to meet future requirements of the city’s growing population. Besides, the Master Plan proposes to develop 11 satellite towns and four “growth centres” around Jaipur. To meet the city’s growing drinking water needs, the Plan talks about a Rs 1,400 crore project to bring the Chambal river’s water to the Bisalpur dam. The Plan proposes to develop as “special areas” the residential areas of Prithviraj Nagar, New Jaipur on Agra road, the Walled City, Amanisha ka Nullah, Sudarshanpura, Kartarpura, Ghat ki Ghuni and Sanganer. The area near Jawahar Circle, too, will be developed under a special scheme. Considering public safety, the Plan proposes to shift all explosives and flammables units and storages in the city to outer localities in future.
