MTHL update

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is determined to go ahead with the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL) project between Sewri and Nhava Sheva. MMRDA commissioner Rahul Asthana on Tuesday said that the consultants’ report was almost ready. “We are preparing to send the RFQ (request for qualification) letters to large Indian and multinational companies, giving them information about the project and asking them to participate in the bidding,” he said. Asthana said that 70% of the land acquisition for the project was already done and added that they would soon be tackling the issue of getting Mumbai Port Trust land for the casting yard. MMRDA officials are happy that chief minister Prithviraj Chavan has shown his support for the project. The authority had only recently taken over the project after the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) failed to get the project off the ground.
