PM on labour reforms

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reopened the debate on labour reforms, suggesting there was need to periodically assess the regulations to ensure they did not impact employment and industrial expansion. Addressing the Indian Labour Conference, Singh cited the view among investors and industry that the existing policies “unduly” protected the interests of the “currently employed” and hindered the creation of new jobs.
