Somewhere in Sriharikota....

A fully grown leopard was found dead in mysterious circumstances on the SHAR premises in Sriharikota on Monday. DFO Parthananda Prasad said it could be the handiwork of hunters. What baffled officials was how the hunters gained entry into a protected and highly sensitive zone like the space centre and kill the wild cat. The carcass of the wild beast was noticed in the branches of a tree near the sewerage treatment plant by the CISF personnel who immediately alerted the forest and police officials. Sources said the hunters used wires and sticks to beat the leopard. “Due to the force used, the leopard died due to heavy bleeding,” a forest official said. Curiously, SHAR officials said the fencing was installed by local farmers to save their farms from being attacked by bandicoots. It was in April 2011 that the authorities found the pug marks of a leopard close to the second launch pad. Ever since, people living in the vicinity of the space centre spotted the wild cat 2-3 times.
