The Planning Commission fixed plan outlay for Tamil Nadu for 2012-13 at Rs 28,000 crore, a 19% higher allocation over the previous year. The decision was taken at a meeting between chief minister J Jayalalithaa and deputy chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia in Delhi.
Centre’s contribution to the outlay will be Rs 3,000 crore. Rest will be mobilized by the state internally through revenue receipts and loans. Expressing displeasure at limited central allocation, the CM said, “We asked for ‘special and additional assistance’ but that was not forthcoming. So what this exercise amounts to is that we have come all the
way to Delhi to have discussions with members of the Planning Commission, so they could tell us how to spend our own money.”
