Mumbai Metro III snippets


The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has started the process of hiring managerial, technical and planning staff for the proposed 33.5km-long underground Colaba–Bandra–SEEPZ metro rail.
“We have invited applications from qualified and interested candidates to implement the underground metro rail,” said SVR Srinivas, managing director of MMRCL. Applications are invited for senior level posts of the Rs 24,500 crore project.
In all four general managers, three deputy general managers, a town planner and transportation planner will be appointed in the latest round of recruitment. The officials who will be recruited will have background of civil works, including constructing tunnels.
At the moment, MMRCL has 30-odd staff to take care of the administrative work. The MMRDA officials have received presentations from four Japanese companies who are interested in the project, they are – Mitsubishi, Nippon, Kawasaki and Hitachi.
Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) too has in-principle agreed to fund the project and the loan agreement is likely to be signed in May. JICA has assured 56% funding of the project cost.
The Colaba – Bandra – SEEPZ metro rail will connect the business districts of Nariman Point, Lower Parel, Bandra Kurla Complex, MIDC and SEEPZ.
If everything works out as per the plan, then the first metro rail should be operation by 2019.
