Now Hooda blows his trumpet

Fierce competition seems to have broken out among chief ministers to project their achievements. After Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s claim of how his government had pushed growth in the state from near zero, Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda claimed his state was ahead of Narendra Modi’s Gujarat in four key parameters, including per capita income, per capita investment, per capita plan expenditure and resource mobilization.
The state government has launched a media campaign to highlight its achievements in different areas.
Speaking at an event to promote investment opportunities in Haryana, Hooda said there were four primary parameters to evaluate a state’s growth story. He said Haryana was number one in per capita investment and also number one in per capita income among bigger states. Per capita plan expenditure of Haryana was also the highest in the country.
Hooda added that as per a Planning Commission report, resource mobilization in Haryana during the 11th five-year plan was 192% of the projected mobilization against the national average of 92.5%. “I know only about Haryana model of development, which is very successful and can be verified on these parameters,” he said.
The state government has been highlighting its model of development since Hooda returned to power for a second consecutive time. But now it’s going all out to grab attention considering that Modi is aggressively showcasing his model of growth.
While Gujarat’s long coastline and its proximity to financial capital Mumbai have been factors behind the state’s success story, Haryana has the advantage of being close to the national capital. Around 30% of the state falls under the National Capital Region, which is a key reason for high investment flow to the state.
Hooda said after Gurgaon, Sonipat was going to be the state’s future mega city. He said the government planned to develop many more cities like Gurgaon.
